My youngest son is finishing his senior year of high school this week. The interesting thing about it is that it’s making him anxious—not about leaving the past behind and everything he’s known so far or about going to college but rather about whether he’s going to be able to support himself after he’s done with college.

I try to play one game of Free Cell every day.  It is one of my few guilty pleasures.  I tell myself that it provides a different kind of mental stimulation from the other things I do like the reading and writing for my job.

Yesterday I made a showing at a party for a family friend that was turning 90-years-old. We probably only stayed 5-10 minutes, partially because we didn’t really know anybody else and partially because it was a crowded party indoors, and with Covid, I wasn’t super comfortable with the safety precautions as people were eating and not wearing masks.

Today is Mother’s Day, so I took the opportunity to wish all the moms I know a “Happy Mother’s Day.” I’m not sure you can really understand how tough it is to be a parent until you are one—no disrespect to anyone out there without kids, but it is a challenge.
