The Blessing at the Racetrack

One day, while betting on the horses and nearly losing his shirt, Mitch noticed something unusual. A priest stepped out onto the track and blessed the forehead of a horse lining up for the 4th race.

To Mitch’s surprise, the horse—an extreme long shot—won the race.

Curious, Mitch watched again as the priest blessed another horse before the 5th race. Mitch rushed to the window and placed a small bet on it. Once again, the blessed horse won.

By the 6th race, Mitch was fully invested. The pattern continued: the priest blessed a horse, and it came in first. Mitch started raking in money and by the final race, he was convinced his fortune had arrived.

He hurried to the ATM, withdrew all his savings, and watched for the priest’s next move.

This time, the priest blessed the horse's forehead, eyes, ears, and hooves.

Convinced this was a “super-blessing,” Mitch bet everything.

The horse came in dead last.

Shocked and broke, Mitch found the priest and demanded,

"What happened, Father? All day you blessed horses and they won. The last race, you blessed a horse and he lost. I bet everything!"

The priest shook his head and replied,

"That’s the problem with you Protestants—you can’t tell the difference between a simple blessing and Last Rites."

The Pastor’s Cat

Dwight Nelson shared a true story about the pastor of his church who had a kitten stuck up a tree. It wouldn’t come down, despite the pastor’s best efforts—coaxing, warm milk, everything.

The tree was too flimsy to climb, so he had a clever idea: tie a rope to the tree and to his car. He’d slowly back up and bend the tree just low enough to grab the kitten.

All was going well, until he thought, "Just a little more..."

The rope snapped.

The tree snapped back.

And the kitten launched into the sky and disappeared!

Devastated, the pastor searched the neighborhood but found no trace. Finally, he prayed, “Lord, I commit this kitten into Your care,” and went on with his life.

A few days later at the grocery store, he saw a church member known for hating cats—with cat food in her cart.

Startled, he asked, “Why are you buying cat food when you can’t stand cats?”

She replied, “You won’t believe this...”

She went on to explain that her little girl had been begging for a cat for weeks, and she kept saying no. Eventually, she told her daughter,

"If God gives you a cat, you can keep it."

She continued:

"Pastor, I watched my daughter go into the yard, kneel down, and pray. And then, I saw it with my own eyes—a kitten came flying out of the sky with its paws out like this..."

(She mimicked a flying cat.)

"And it landed right in front of her."
